Copenhagen is fast becoming one of the coolest destinations in Europe

Copenhagen is a delight to explore and quite easy to get around on foot and public transport. The most worthwhile sightseeing options include “Middelalderbyen” (The Medieval City). The Amalienborg Palace, dominated by the dome of Fredricks Church (The Marble Church) and  the old inner city of Copenhagen which includes the small island of Slotsholmen with Christiansborg Palace and Christanshavn. Also worth exploring in the historical city centre is a band of residential boroughs (Vesterbro, Inner Nørrebro, Inner Østerbro) dating mainly from late 19th century. They were built outside the old ramparts of the city when the city was finally allowed to expand beyond this barrier.

Copenhagen is also referred to as “the City of Spires”, Copenhagen is known for its horizontal skyline, only broken by spires of churches and castles. The most famous spires being part of the Church of our Saviour, ChristiansborgPalace and the City Hall.

Copenhagen is also a big hit with nature and active holiday makers as it is one of the greenest cities in Europe. As well as the Kingsgarden there is also a sculpture garden, botanical garden, many public parks and a city Zoo. However the most visited and most anti-climatic sightseeing monument is the statue of the Little Mermaid found on the coast. It really is a little mermaid!

Finally for visitors to Copenhagen it is not a visit without exploring at least one of Copenhagen’s many lovely beaches. There is over 8 km of sandy beaches within 30 mins cycling of the city centre. Not bad eh! Bikes can be rented quite easily in the city centre and cycle lanes are popular and safe.
