Eating out in Zagreb

A great guide to the best restaurants in the city to enjoy

This section of the website highlights the best restaurants in Zagreb. We only review the restaurants that our staff or our clients have visited & recommended. So let us be your food guide for your Croatia holidays and use our positive experiences to enhance your dining enjoyment. From our experiences the Croatian people love their food, especially the meat and seafood dishes but vegetarians don’t worry there is a wide choice of restaurants to cover just about every culinary desire.

The Pavilions restaurant is in the grandest settings, perfect for romantic breaks, luxury holidays in Croatia and those on honeymoons. The beautiful Austro-Hungarian architecture and the wonderful location in the horseshoe City Park add to its charm and class. Dishes are a mixture of traditional and International, the service is attentive but not over bearing and the prices reflect the high quality. Baltazar is an excellent choice for those who wish to experience authentic Croatian cuisine while enjoying high class service at the same time. It has a lovely ambience that attracts a real mix of weekend break clients. Romantics, business travellers and Opera holiday makers are all seen dining here. Kaptolska Klet is a fun place for lunch, located almost touching distance from the city Cathedral. The speciality here is unquestionably meat, meat and more meat! The spit-roasted specialities include lamb, duck, pork and veal and they also make their own sausages. If you are on a short break in Zagreb then this is one for the hit list; you will not leave hungry from here. Ideal for discerning city breaks dinners. Definitely one for your summer holidays in Croatia. Boban is a sophisticated Italian restaurant with an outdoor terrace on a charming pedestrianized street in Zagreb’s Old Town. If it is too cold to sit outside, then you can enjoy the pasta and salad specialities in the cellar style interior.

Okrugljak restaurant is the place to go if you want to eat the finest food and be completely pampered. The service is of the highest level and the wine list is also superb. Traditional dishes served and presented impeccably. There are a lot of restaurants that specialise in fish and meat dishes but to the other extreme there is Melong a vegetarian restaurant, which creates some of the tastiest dishes in the city. It is a popular place and not touristy in the slightest, but although the menu is in Croatian there is always a huge photo to help identify the dish of your fancy. The atmosphere is relaxed, the prices a good and the food is excellent. The perfect blend for a top city break table to choose during your Croatia breaks. Try Lido, a nice restaurant located on Lake Jarun and is a lovely place to relax in summer. The Croatian white wine is very good indeed and is particularly nice when sitting on the Lido’s outdoor terrace. Restaurant Paviljon is popular with many visitors due to its good location on Trg kralia Tomislava and its classy ambience. It specialises in sea-food dishes, which are fresh each day. Couples on a romantic holiday in Zagreb would also enjoy the service here.

Vinodol is an excellent place for lunch. It is in the heart of the city and can offer all sorts of Croatian specialities; there is also the possibility to see your food being cooked under the Peke (a special method of cooking meat and vegetables). Starina restaurant is a popular spot on the Medvenica Mountain. There is an outside terrace with outstanding views or if you prefer you can sit inside at long tables in carved out wine barrels. There is also live music on weekends and if you are lucky you may coincide with a wedding reception, which adds to the fun and friendly atmosphere.

Dining is an essential part to any city break trip, especially holidays in Croatia. Sestinski lagvic is a folk style restaurant that is ideal for a hearty lunch after an exhaustive walk up Medvenica hill. From here you can enjoy good coffee and a panorama of Zagreb. Klub knjizevnika is located on Trg Jelacica so it is great for short break visitors to enjoy lunch from and people watch for an hour or so. Prices are reasonable and service is good. Another popular restaurant just outside the city is Isabella. Its vaulted ceilings make for a delightful atmosphere and its speciality game dishes are out of this world.

Pod grickim topom overlooks Zagreb’s bustling streets. It is an expensive restaurant but its kitchen is of the highest quality and the ambience is unique. Recommendable for our discerning Croatia weekend break travellers. Restaurant Gentlemen is a fascinating place to dine especially for Croatia stag do’s in Zagreb. It offers superb pizza’s and lamb dishes. The theme of the restaurant is football, football, football and the owners pictures take you through years or history. Table reservations for stag weekends in Zagreb can be arranged on request. Caramba’s is also a popular restaurant for birthday groups or hen & Stag party’s. It has a vibrant atmosphere and serves excellent tex mex dishes but please be warned it is extremely popular so advanced bookings are required.
