Whilst on a city break in Tallinn we encourage you to visit a leafy
suburb just a few minutes walk from the town centre. Kadriorg is one
of the best loved residential regions of the cpaital, residence to
the Estonian President and many foreign embassies. The streets of
Kadriorg are like walking along an open air museum, with preserved
historical wooden residential homes that sit alongside regal and
aristocratic buildings. There are many wonderful sightseeing
attractions to enjoy in this green suburb, but the most prestigious
tourist landmark is the Kadriorg Palace. Originally founded in 1721
by the Russian Emperor Peter the Great as a gift to his wife
Catherine I, this beautiful pink baroque palace is a major holiday
break site in Tallinn. Here inside the palace, city break lovers can
find Tallinn’s famous ‘Foreign Art Museum’ and see thousands of
western European and Russian works of art, ranging from prints &
paintings to sculpture & historic furniture. The palace is also the
venue for concerts and theatrical performances, lectures and
receptions, perfect for visitors that love to experience high
culture on their luxury holidays. Another huge attraction to the
Kadriorg area is the palace’s park. The park is great for Tallin
city break ramblers, full of woodland, plant life, sculptures,
winding paths and ponds like the symmetrical Swan Lake pond.
Kadriorg Palace is holiday highlight for anyone coming to Estonia.
Make it part of your wonderful short breaks abroad.Another very attractive area for spending free time for both
visitors and locals is a coastal area off Kopli Bay called ‘Rocca al
Mare’ (the cliff by the sea). Here you can discover an Estonian open
air museum dedicated to folklore and old traditions. Within the 80
hectare territory, you can see farm buildings, windmills and village
life of various regions from the 18-20th century. It’s a great place
to have a picnic or to escape the city buzz and to experience a
different side to Estonia, whilst on a weekend breaks there.
There is an abundance of forests and spectacular greenery in
Estonia, one of the most beautiful areas is the Lahemaa National
Park, about 90 minutes from centre of the capital. Every weekend,
locals, Tallinn city break tourists and Baltic holiday makers flock
to this beautiful area of sand dune beaches, pine forests and
sparkling lakes. There are ancient settlements to discover and
several manor houses, like the famous Palmse Palace. It’s a great
day out and an excellent way to re-energize, and see lots more of
Estonia.
The Estonian coastline is very long and rich and has some beautiful
beaches to discover. There are many attractive white sand beaches
like the Parnu & Haapsalu beaches that are very accessible from
Tallinn and can be tailored into your Estonia city breaks package. Parnu is about 70 minutes south and is a lovely coastal city with a
wonderful beach and is known for its spas, parks & mud bath
facilities. Haapsalu too is a very popular summer excursion and has
an awesome 13th century castle and dome church. Other popular beach
destinations worth mentioning are Kakumae, Vaana-Joesuu and Lohusalu,
which are west. Make Parnu & Haapsalu part of your short break to
Estonia, you won’t regret it.
Estonia is made up of thousands of scenic islands, many of which are
inhabited and full of great cultural attractions, from Gothic
churches to medieval castles and ancient cities. During the Soviet
years, these islands were off bounds to the people on the mainlands,
so the way of life on these islands has been preserved. We recommend
to our Estonia city break clients to visit the largest island
Saaremaa, to see a different perspective of the Estonian life. |
