Nightlife in Reykjavik
Iceland City Breaks nocturnal guide
|
|
Reykjavik enjoys its legendary status for being one of the
best short break destinations to party, drink and
dance in the world. The Icelandic capital is known for its
all night clubbing, trendy bars, beautiful blonde locals and
carnival style atmosphere on the weekends. Many city breaks visitors
often fly over to Reykjavik just for the weekend, just to embrace
the capitals famous & unique night life. Just about every door in
down town, leads to a busy drinking hole, full of activity and wild
stag & hen party antics. It’s quite astonishing at night, to walk
past the European styled cafes, which in the day were serving a
light lunch and coffee, are now thriving clubs, packed to the
rafters with party hungry patrons. This small capital, really does
party like it’s 10 times its size, offering a maze of quality bars
and nightclubs, which are all clustered together making it very easy
for city break guests to find the night action. Book with the
Iceland holiday experts. Browse our on-line bargain short breaks

| The best bars, pubs, night clubs and hotspots in
Reykjavik |
In this section, you’ll find a comprehensive list of all the best
party venues to try out. This awesome city has something to suit
everybody, from chic-yuppie bars, down to earth pubs, lively clubs,
plush DJ-lounges and futuristic bars.
Vegamot is a quality bistro during the day and early evening, but
later into the night, Vegamot evolves into an awesome nightclub,
with quality DJs rocking the turntables and pretty Icelandic people
shaking their behinds. This is one of the best places to party on
holiday in Reykjavik and we recommend you arrive about 11pm and
indulge in the great Icelandic vodka cocktails. Pravda, formerly
known as Astro, is situated in the heart of the town and is an ultra
trendy nightclub, with a well dressed clientele. We recommend this
for clubbing but not for an Iceland stag weekend. Many international
DJs get booked to play here from John Digweed to Nick Warren etc
adding to exclusivity of Pravda’s atmosphere. The dress code and
face control can be quite strict, so dress to impress, to avoid
disappointment on your party nights.

Gaukur á Stöng is the oldest pub and is responsible for the
invention of the famous vodka-spiked beer they served before the
legalization of lager in 1989. For Iceland city break visitors
looking for a place to listen to live rock music and not worry about
dress codes, then this is a great pub to try. Kaffibarinn is part
owned by Blur’s lead singer ‘Damon Albarn’, which probably explains
the London Underground Tube sign hanging outside. This bar-club is
one of the trendiest places to go and is a great place to drink and
catch a good party atmosphere. Although some local Icelandic people
say the clientele is a little egotistical, we have had only good
times at Kaffibarinn and found the atmosphere to be fun and
friendly. We recommend it to all types of weekend breaks explorers.
Café Rosenberg has a history as both being a dance and a rock
club, but has recently reopened with a Jazz theme and has started
serving food. It's a place to see up and coming Jazz bands and the
more established acts. This could be an appropriate place a more
mature crowd and avoid the stag night noise. The biggest night club
is NASA, set in an old Theatre and has a great sound system &
resident DJs that play to an enthusiastic packed capacity most
weekends. If your Iceland holiday requires thumping dance music,
then NASA could be a good choice. The door policy is strict for lad
type do’s, so we advise making a guest list, to avoid being turned
away. Nelly’s Café is a rocking pub, with a young, stags, student
crowd, that consistently has a fun atmosphere over the weekend break
period. Nelly’s supposedly has the cheapest beer, which we wouldn’t
totally agree with but it definitely is a place to reminisce the
student life. The local bands are very good, playing mainly cover
songs and there is a large dancefloor on the upper floor. There is
normally a mixture of students, stagnights and a friendly young
faces.
Glaumbar is a quality sports bar, an excellent place to catch
major sporting events on large TVs screens. The establishment is
basically based around the bar, so you won't have to go a long way
for a drink. On Thursdays, is the Corona promotional night and is
very popular amongst students, Iceland stag weekends and is a good
place to party if your city break starts before the weekend. A
similar sports bar is Players with its large screens to watch
international sports like golf, football, boxing etc. On the
weekends it turns into a busy dance club, where people can strut
their stuff on the large dancefloor. Again, it’s quite a cross
section of people, ranging from stag dos, students and blonde
stunners. Other sports bars in town are Olver Glaesibaer and
Klubburinn, with big TVs and typical sports bar atmosphere.
Odal is a lapdancing club located in the city centre, which
offers gorgeous girl dancers on stage and provides private strip
tease dances in personal booths. It is a high class strip nightclub
that is both stylish and offers a unique relaxed atmosphere, which
makes it a very popular club amongst the touring stag parties in
Iceland. The VIP room can also be hired for grooms wishing to see
their last night of freedom off properly for the ultimate adventure
break abroad. If stunning girls are what’s needed to complete the
gents night out, then don’t hesitate and come to Club Odal. You
won’t regret it.
Prikid is one of Reykjavik's oldest bars and used to be a
traditional coffee house. The place is a popular nightclub on the
weekends and normally draws in a younger clientele. Another very old
establishment is Vídalin and you can catch live bands and DJs here
aswell. Every capital has its fair share of Irish themed pubs and
this city is of no exception. The most well known is The Dubliner
and is a good place to get a good pint of Guinness and sink a
whiskey. The pub is very cosy, but isn’t the most original place to
drink on a city break holiday in Iceland. Nether the less, we like
the subtle low lit lighting, wooden tables and live music. The
prices are reasonable and they do special promotions in association
with the tourist office.
Broadway is located inside Hotel Island and is the largest
dancehall. It’s known for its Vegas-style shows, singing and dancing
spectaculars. One of the best concept shows is Le Sing, where the
waiters are also the actors, artists, entertainers and dancers. It’s
a fantastic concept that takes you through a journey with good food
combined with themes from many of the best musicals, cabarets and
music from world famous artists. The stars of the evening are young
and upcoming actors, singers and dancers in the Icelandic
entertainment industry. We highly recommend an evening at the
Broadway and especially to see Le Sing. It offers a great evening
out for your Holidays.
Café Victor is located in an historic building on the square
Ingólfstorg, an important site for Icelandic culture and history. On
the weekends Café Victor turns into a vibrant discotheque and is
known for its excellent party atmosphere. Thorvaldsen bar has DJs on
Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and always has massive queues outside
after midnight. Thjódleikhúskjallarinn is a basement café, situated
underneath the National Theatre, but is a very atmospheric club to
party in. Kapital plays mostly electronica music, from break beat
and techno to drum n bass and hiphop. Mojito, is found on the 5th
floor above the Apotek Bar in the heart of Reykjavik. It’s a popular
place to come but is only during the summer months. Hverfisbarinn is
a popular bar that turns into a funky disco on the weekends, and
gets very busy after midnight. Café Cultura has both live music and
Djs on Friday Saturdays and runs a Tango evening every Wednesday.
| Iceland Stag weekends in Reykjavik |

A Stag weekend in Reykjavik is not cheap. If you’re on a
budget, look elsewhere. Flight prices are higher, beer is
astronomically expensive, around £8.00 a pint and the sports
activities won’t leave you with much change for those pricey beers.
However, leaving those negative comments to one side, for those of
you who can afford to budget for Iceland, Reykjavik is undoubtedly
one of the best places you could ever choose. You could find
yourselves playing golf at midnight under the sun, rampaging over
black sand dunes on Quad bikes, rafting along ferocious river rapids
or scooting across huge glaciers on snowmobiles. The stag weekend
night scene is nothing short of crazy, where the whole town turns
into one big free for all drinking den. Restaurants, cafes and
basements turn into late night bars and down town Reykjavik is
flooded with the most beautiful people in Europe. There’s live music
jams, modern dance clubs, student bars and even go-go strip clubs.
“Iceland is without a doubt an awesome party city, just a
shame its so damn expensive. However, good looking girls, awesome
action activities all contributed to a wicked weekend. I just wished
it was cheaper. Thanks for the seamless arrangements” Kevin
