Bird Watching

Bird Watching A variety of bird watching holiday tours can be arranged in Iceland, ranging from a short one day trip to a week long tour which covers most of the important bird watching places in the country. Iceland truly is a bird watchers paradise, with massive colonies and breeding grounds found throughout the country. Close to Reykjavik is the Reykjanes peninsula, which is the major nesting grounds for the Arctic Tern and on the Westman Islands, are the largest Puffin colonies in Iceland. For those that want to see even more species of birds, we organise bird watching tours across the central highlands to Lake Myvatn, which has more species of breeding ducks than any other place in Europe.

Other bird watching places of great interest in Iceland are Látrabjarg in the West Fjords, having the largest colony of cliff nesting birds in the world. In all, 241 kinds of birds are known to have visited Iceland at one time or another and of these 72 nest regularly. The most important sea birds are the guillemot, the razorbill, the puffin, the kittiwake, the fulmar, and the gannet. However, the most celebrated of all Icelandic birds is the Icelandic falcon and the snowy owl, which are nearly extinct in the world. Send an enquiry or call our friendly staff about our bird watching holiday tours.

Blue Lagoon

Blue Lagoon The Blue Lagoon is a pool of geothermal seawater in the middle of a moss-covered lava field and is one of the most rewarding holiday experiences to be had in Iceland. The waters are an inviting 36-39°C all year round and the natural active ingredients in the water: salts, silica and blue green algae help our Iceland holiday clients to relax and escape the stress and strain of daily life. The Blue Lagoon has its own special ecosystem that is self cleansing and has no need for additional cleansers such as chlorine. Even the Icelandic department of health has praised the Blue Lagoon for its benefits on healthy skin. Vamos Travel highly recommends an excursion to the Bluelagoon as part of your Reykjavik city breaks. It’s only a 45-minute drive from the capital but only a 15 minute diversion from Keflavik International airport. That’s why we recommend to all our short break clients, to arrange a visit to the Blue Lagoon, on either their arrival or departure of Iceland.

Horse Riding

Horse Riding Horses were brought to the island by the first Viking settlers, during the years 874 - 930. Their boats were small and only a few horses, the very best, were brought along. For years our city breaks guests staying in Reykjavik have been enjoying horse back adventures, discovering the many scenic treasures that this country possesses. All our horse riding tours are planned through a geological paradise that attracts riders to visit over and over again. Bathe in hot springs, cross the ashes of ancient eruptions, discover active volcanoes or watch the sunset on a perfect coastline, these are all realities with our amazing horse riding adventures in Iceland.

Northern lights The Northern Lights or the Aurora Borealis are one of the most amazing natural phenomena’s known to man. The Northern Lights are constantly in motion because of the changing interaction between the solar wind and the earth's magnetic field, creating a colourful and hypnotic skyline. Have a holiday in Iceland and discover this natural phenomenon.
