The Prague National Theatre is a monument to Czech history
and belongs to the most important Czech cultural institutions. At
the heart of the Czech National Theatre are three artistic
ensembles: The Opera, ballet and drama. It was these traditions that
helped to preserve and develop the most important cultural features
of the Czech nation. It was the collections of money among the broad
masses of the Czech public that facilitated the theatres
construction. This in itself is a true testament of the will of the
Czech nation for its national identity and independence. The
National Theatre was opened for the first time on June 11, 1881 to
honour the visit of crown prince Rudolf. It was built to perfection,
designed by Josef Zitek and only had significant modern
modifications after being open for over a hundred years. Today, this
extremely prestigious and beautiful building is still the premier
theatre for Prague’s opera, ballet and drama. If you would like to
experience Prague National Theatre as part of your Czech Republic
weekend break stay, we’d be delighted to book tickets for you.

The Prague State Opera, formerly known as Smetana Theatre,
opened in 1888. It was built in response to the Czech National
Theatre by the city’s German minority, so that the Prague-German
performers didn’t have to share a theatre with other production
companies. The State Opera was designed by Fellner and Helmer, who
were famous for there opera house designs. The interior of the State
opera is luxurious, with beautiful sculpted decorations and
elaborate paintings. The State Opera is Prague’s most attractive
theatre and whether to see a performance or not, it should be
visited, to marvel in its beauty. Please enquire if you would like
to see a performance here, whilst on your short breaks stay
in Prague.

The Prague Opera Gala Series is for all music lovers and
opera connoisseurs and has been an extremely loved tradition since
1992. The gala series runs for a 11 months and is held at the
Kaiserstein Palace but was originally held in one of Prague’s oldest
buildings, on the old town square, called ‘the House at the Stone
Bell’. The Kaiserstein Palace is one the most stunning Baroque
buildings in Prague and is located in the Mala Strana district or
more commonly known by tourists as ‘little Quarter’. The concert
hall of the Kaiserstein Palace was named the Emmy Destinn Hall in
honour of the world-renown opera singer and greatest of all Czech
divas. Many outstanding world opera singers have participated in the
Stone Bell series, some of the Prague opera Gala principal stars
have been: Italian tenor Gaetano Bardini, American soprano Pauletta
de Vaughn and Ukrainian tenor Vladimir Grishko. This beautiful
building is well worth visiting to see a concert or recital of great
operatic arias. We have a dedicated department that specialises in
Opera city breaks, Ballet city breaks and many other luxury &
cultural holiday breaks in Prague. Let us arrange the most memorable

| The Theatre of the Estates |
|
The Theatre of the Estates is one of the most beautiful
historic theatres in Europe and is permanently linked with the name
of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It was here that he premiered two
of his operas: the famous Don Giovanni in 1787, which Mozart himself
conducted and the opera La Clemenza di Tito in 1791. The theatre
itself is spectacular, a luxurious design, and the most imperial
back drop to the perfect evening in Prague. Vamos Travel will be
only too happy to book tickets for future performances, whether;
opera, ballet or classical concerts. We can base any type of weekend
breaks package around scheduled performances. Tickets do sell very
quickly at the Theatre of the Estates, so plan your Prague
