Bolshoi Theatre

The Bolshoi Theatre is a grand neo-classical building that was constructed in 1824 and is renowned for its size and the quality of the acoustics. Visitors always get a thrill out of a visit to this world-renowned theatre. The gilt 19th-century auditorium is a sight to behold, as is the Russian flair for set and costume design, which alone is enough to keep an audience enthralled. The Bolshoi has hosted some of Russia's most famed performers and celebrated premieres by some of the world's best-loved composers, like in 1842, when Glinka's opera ‘A Life for the Tsar’ was premiered. The creative activity of such composers and directors as Alexis Verstovsky and Alexander Varlamov contributed massively to the Bolshoi’s international status. Together they formed the Russian Opera repertoire. The theatre's ballet performances are some of the best in the world and the company's corps de ballet is one of the most acclaimed in Europe. A trip to see one of the Bolshoi Theatre's world-class opera or ballet performances is an absolute must on your next visit to Moscow. We have a dedicated department that specialises in Operas at the Bolshoi Theatre that are combined with amazing city breaks of Moscow. A variety of opera and Ballet city break packages and many other luxury & cultural Moscow holiday breaks, based around theatre performances at the Bolshoi Theatre can be arranged.

Stanislavsky & Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre

If tickets for the Bolshoi are unavailable, then we highly recommend opera & ballet performances at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre, also known as the ‘Stasic’. The Stanislavsky & Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre, founded in 1941 when the Stanislavsky Opera Studio merged with the Music Studio of Nemirovich-Danchenko, blends the traditions of Russian classical ballet with a novel and innovative approach to production, staging and set design. The history of the theatre's ballet & opera group goes back to the late 1920's, when Moscow acquired a new dance company called Art Ballet. Today, all the usual classical works and a few more interesting and lesser known one-act ballets and Russian favorites. Opera enthusiasts regard the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko as Moscow’s ‘second Bolshoi’. Classical and modern operas, ballets, and operettas are staged here, and many say that there performances of Swan Lake are the best in Russia. The theatre is less well known than the Bolshoi, so tickets are often cheaper. The following ballets are well worth a look; Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Puccini's La Boheme, Bizet's Carmen and many more. If there is a particular performance, you would like to see, please add this to your enquiry and send it to the opera & ballet tour specialists. For operas or ballets in Russia, there is no other company that is as reliable as Vamos Travel, to guarantee a magical, cultural and historical journey that you will never forget.

Helikon Opera

The Helikon Opera Theatre opened in 1990 and is housed in the former 18th century private residence of Princess Shakhovskaya, in Moscow's traditionally bohemian and artistic neighborhood around the Arbat. Within this historical venue the Helikon Opera theatre has three stages at its disposal: Great and Small halls, which can seat 300 and 100, respectively, and the cozy inner courtyard used as a summer stage. The theatre boasts a talented symphony orchestra and an experienced cast of actors, many of whom have won theatrical awards in Russian and abroad. Over the past decade the theatre has built a reputation as a bold and experimental theatre with a repertoire of modern productions of many of famous operas. The Helikon boasts imaginative and challenging productions of Verdi's Aida and La Traviata, Strauss' Die Fledermaus and Mozart's lesser known Apollo et Hyacinthus etc. However, in staging of popular and widely known works, the Helikon Opera Theatre creates innovative original productions and avoids conventional and overplayed approaches. The theatre company strives to surprise the audience with novelty and daring concepts, brilliant vocal and dramatic performances. The Helikon Opera Theatre has its own unique features, both stylish and rebellious and it is of no surprise to find that the house is always full. Classical Concerts

Tchaikovsky Concert Hall

The building housing the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, whose massive square-pillared portico and diamond-patterned facade looms above the main entrance to Mayakovsky Metro Station, was originally built as a theatre for the avant-garde director and producer, Vsevolod Meyerhold. Meyerhold, who is regarded as one of the most exciting and experimental Russian theatre directors of this century. However, Meyerhold was arrested and killed during Stalin's purges of the 1930s and the theater was converted into a concert hall, which is now used by the Russian State Symphony Orchestra. The Russian State Symphony Orchestra was founded in the early 1930s and began its first concert program in the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire in October 1936. Today the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall hosts regular concerts by both the Russian State Symphony Orchestra and many visiting international orchestras, ensembles, choirs, soloists and conductors. We recommend to our clients to go to Tchaikovsky Concert Hall for a splendid evening of classical music. Make an enquiry to our knowledgeable staff about designing a suitable short break package that includes concert tickets.

The prestigious Moscow Conservatoire, located just a five-minute walk from Red Square and the Kremlin, was founded in September 1866 by the outstanding pianist and musician Nikolai Rubinshtein. The Conservatoire was originally opened in the grandiose 18th century former residence of the Baroness Cherkassova, where Tchaikovsky was immediately offered a post at the new Moscow Conservatoire. The rapidly growing Conservatoire soon found its premises on Vozdvizhenka restrictive and the entire school was transferred to yet another elaborate 18th century mansion on Bolshaya Nikitskaya, where it remains to this day. Today the Conservatoire is a world-recognized centre of musical education and performance and musicological studies and fosters some of Russia's most talented contemporary composers, conductors and musicians. Today the Conservatoire holds regular concerts in its various venues.
