Sight seeing in Malta
|
|
Malta offers an all year-round sunny climate so it is possible to
visit in any month of the year and explore the island. In the
warmest months from Sprint to Autumn Malta offers sandy beaches,
lively barsand excellent restaurants making the Maltese islands
superb resort destinations.
During the warmer months it is nice to explore Valetta by open bus
and to visit the neighbouring islands of Gozo and Comino on a boat
tour. It is definitely worth visiting the Blue Lagoon during your
Malta Summer holiday as well as exploring the charming local
villages and historical churchs.
For history lovers it is ideal
with its
rich history spanning many nations including: the Phoenicians, the
Romans, the Arabs, the Knights of St.John and the British in more
recent years. The diversity of these cultures has made this tiny
island of around 400,000 inhabitants an intriguing and alluring
destination for the discerning traveller with so much to see and
explore from castles to ancient Megaliths.
For day excursions we would recommend starting with a trip to the
"Silent City" Mdina, Malta's original capital. It is a timeless and
beautiful UNESCO protected walled town steeped in history and fine
architecture on every corner. The winding narrow streets were
designed as a clever defensive strategy to stop archers and later
rifle men having clear shots; but now it simply adds to the
enchantment and charm of this magical place. We recommend spending
at least half a day here; lose yourself in the windy streets,
indulge in the wonderful local shops and relax in the unique
restaurants.
But there's a lot more than sun and sea on offer, the rich history
of Malta has left a plethora of world acclaimed sights: Megaliths,
medieval dungeons and Calypso's Cave - Malta is positively mythic.
The narrow cobblestone streets of its towns are crowded with
Renaissance cathedrals and Baroque palaces, while its countryside is
dotted with the oldest-known human structures in the world.
