Ljubljana Brnik airport is served by EASY JET and Adria Airways. So
UK travellers have the choice of Gatwick or Stansted for there
flights. The flight is very short and the main Slovenian terminal is
very small - so reduces travel stresses, which is always a bonus.

Slovenia’s history is more peaceful and stable than many of it’s
neighbouring countries.
The early Slovene settlers came under Germanic rule in 748 and
this influence deepened as the Austro-German monarchy took over in
the 14th century. As a consequence the upper classes became
completely germanised, although the peasants retained their
Slovenian identity. During a short break in Ljubljana you will see
for yourself the grand influence the Austro-Hungarian Empire had on
Ljubljana’s architecture. After WWI the Austro-Hungarian Empire was
dissolved and Slovenia formed a kingdom with the Serbs and Croats.
However in WWII to escape threats from Germany, Italy and Hungary,
Slovenia became part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia
under Soviet rule. In spring of 1990, Slovenia became the first
Yugoslav republic to hold free elections and shortly after this the
country voted for and won its independence. As a visitor to Slovenia
you can see the historic influences through the architecture but you
also realise how whole-heartedly the Slovenian people preserved
their national culture and identity, which is still so prevalent
today. Slovenia has a culture based on poetry and folk music. This
still plays a big part in local festivities and customs and is a joy
to experience when on a city break in Ljubljana or an extended
holiday in Slovenia. It was also greatly influenced by punk in the
late 70’s and early 80’s and as a result there is a big number of
postmodernist paintings and sculptures in the capital Ljubljana. The
speciality dishes in Slovenia are normally based around fish or
veal, but there are also many Austrian dishes such as Strudel,
Italian dishes like Risotto and even Hungarian dishes, including
Goulash! The restaurants in Ljubljana are high in standard and cross
over many nationalities; but with the close proximity to Italy there
is also an excellent choice of Italian dishes. In the countryside
you will try more hearty and wholesome cooking and hospitality to
match. Those on a romantic getaway or honeymoon in Slovenia
can even be taken to countryside Castles and enjoy the national
cuisine and costume first hand - please contact a Vamos Travel
consultant for specific details. The Slovenian people are very warm
and friendly and in Ljubljana the citizens are professional people
with a modern and sophisticated approach to life. The
National
Opera in Ljubljana is a well respected form of entertainment
attracting world renowned artists from both the world of opera and
ballet a like. Opera breaks in Ljubljana and Ballet tours in
Slovenia are extremely popular; please contact a Vamos Travel
consultant for details. Slovenia also gives visitors and locals
alike a superb chance to experience its fascinating heritage. On a

available to visitors interested in exploring the heritage of
Slovenia. From local village churches to opulent castles, which can
