Slovenia’s history is more peaceful and stable than many of it’s neighbouring countries.

The early Slovene settlers came under Germanic rule in 748 and this influence deepened as the Austro-German monarchy took over in the 14th century. As a consequence the upper classes became completely germanised, although the peasants retained their Slovenian identity.
