Nightlife guide for Berlin
“Berlin, the party capital of Europe”
|
|
Fashion and music are equally as important in the capital as
business and politics, so it is of no wonder why this city has the
reputation of being the party capital of Europe. There are
only a handful of world capitals that can match the energies of the
Berlin night life, notorious for being able to party hard for 24
hours a day. In the city that never sleeps, there are no closing
times, restaurants, bars, casinos and nightclubs, tend to close at
their own discretion, making it very plausible to explore many
corners in one night. Entry fees are usually free or very cheap, so
like the many Berlin stag nights, you can find yourself bar & pub
hopping and enjoying a plethora of different late night hangouts.
The city is littered with quality chic-bars & cocktails lounges to
start the evening events and then approaching midnight, Berlin steps
up another notch, as the trendiest night clubs start to open. Music
enthusiasts will love the Berlin clubbing scene; you’ll be able to
find techno raves, RnB flavours, massive gay & lesbian partys
and the usual array of student venues. So whether you’re searching
for that quiet romantic corner or that appropriate all night
drinking den for your stag weekend, you’ll certainly find it
in Germany’s amazing capital. Book with the Germany holiday experts.

| The best bars, pubs, nightclubs and hotspots in Berlin |
In this section, you’ll find a comprehensive list of all the best
night spots. We have reviewed a wide cross section of venues, for
all types of weekend travelers. This brilliant weekend party city
has something to suit everybody, from chic-bars, down to earth
pubs, cheap stag nights clubs, casinos and cutting edge night clubs.
If you would like Vamos Travel to arrange a nightlife guide or want
us to book nightclub VIP guest passes, we will be happy to add this
to your city breaks itinerary. Please read on and enjoy our ‘Berlin
by night’ reviews, recommendations and hot night spot tips.
There certainly isn’t a shortage of quality lounge type bars,
cocktail bars and fun pubs in this city. One for the real party
animals, is AM-PM which is open 24hours everyday. It’s a great place
to find a non-stop party spirit, great for those Berlin stag nights
and meet a friendly crowd on the dancefloor. A-lounge is another
popular bar-club with its on DJ & dancefloor, found in the Mitte
district. The music policy changes throughout the week, but the
clientele is usually a nice mix of locals, short break foreigners
and trendy students. Green Door bar is known to be one of the nicest
bars to try, and is very suitable for a more mature discerning
crowd. The service & cocktails are of a very high standard and the
décor is based around a subtle 70s retro theme. It’s an excellent
bar, offering a great late drink option for your holiday. Happy hour
runs between, 6-9pm, which makes it a good place to start an evening
and prepare for a long night of partying. Every major European
capital has its fair share of Irish pubs and this city is of no
exception. In the Charlottenburg district you’ll find Irish Harp
that has live music every night and a wide selection of beers. In
the Europa Centre shopping mall is the ‘Irish Pub’ and is usually
packed throughout the week. When the big games are playing it
normally draws in the expats, lads holidays and Germany stag do’s,
but generally it’s a nice mixed crowd throughout the week. Thirdly,
it’s worth mentioning Oscar Wildes, where visitors can find all day
breakfasts (hen night hangover cure), sky sports, karaoke and great
Guinness. These three Irish pubs are definitely city breaks
favourites in Berlin.
A Berlin breaks top tip bar is Reingold. This amber glowing venue
creates the perfect ambient-lounge bar setting. The interior is chic
& welcoming and there is a mood of relaxation and sophistication.
It’s an up-market bar in the Mitte district, with an excellent
reputation for its cocktails and resident DJs that supply the
musical vibes through the week. If you can find this bar, hidden
down the back streets, you’ll be patting yourselves on the back.
It’s a must-drink bar during a short weekend stay in Berlin, we
couldn’t praise it more. Not far from the Reingold is another
excellent bar. The Greenwich, is said by some people to be the
coolest bar in Berlin. The décor is trendy, the clientele are
sophisticated and it’s not the sort of place that welcomes the
rancorous groups of stags that are out for a good old pissup. The
crowd is a lovely mix of suits ‘n’ ties, students, urban socialites
and expats. The attitude is friendly, the prices are reasonable,
which makes the Greenwich a real bargain for budget travelers. If
you’re looking for one of the biggest cocktail lists in the city,
then stroll into Bar am Luetzowplatz and prop yourself up at the 16m
long bar. The place is stylish, if not a little over priced, but you
can always come on happy hour, which runs 2-9pm. Still searching for
the ideal cocktail bar? Why not try, Haifisch in West-Berlin. It has
a sushi restaurant, its open till 3am most nights and the bar staff
get the cocktail-mixology to perfection. Avoid the stagweekends,
which are marching through the city and kick back in this slightly
quirky bar in the Kreuzberg area.

Delicious Doughnuts is becoming more and more popular, a cross
between a bar-lounge-club. The Djs play a sweet mix of Brazilian
beats, deep house and soul-funk, which will definitely appeal to
city escapes travellers that like meaningful music, rather trashy
pop. The crowd isn’t pretentious, the dancefloor is always nicely
full and the atmosphere is fun & friendly. Delicious Doughnuts is
fast become a hot favourite. Not recommended for big parties on
cheap stag weekends. Bar Lounge 808 attracts an up market crowd, but
it does tend to be a little pretentious. The drink prices are quite
expensive and the décor isn’t to everybody’s tastes. Strangely this
bar, is loved by some and hated by others. That said, we have only
found the staff to be friendly and the cocktails to be well mixed &
rather strong. The music is a subtle mix of chillout, house and
new-jazz vibes. If you want to miss the large crowds & those
boisterous bargain stag partys, come to 808 mid-week, where you can
grab a sofa and relax under the dim light. Off the beaten track is
Kaffee Burger. This former brothel is a throw back of the socialist
60s days and is known to be one of the coolest places to find. The
clientele is as eclectic as the interior, which makes for an
unusually relaxed atmosphere. It’s quite a hard place to locate in
Mitte, so it’s probably best to grab a taxi and go straight there.
Kaffee Burger is definitely a cool place to have tried whilst on a
short holiday adventure in Berlin, we hope you find it and enjoy it.
If you’re in Mitte search out Hotelbar. Many of our discerning
city breaks clients have mentioned this bar for its cool 70s
furnishings, live music & DJs. Also, on the old skool décor tip is
‘Pony’. The people and staff here are really down to earth, prices
are reasonable and the crowd is a pleasant mix of locals and
tourists. If Hotelbar & Pony are the kind of places that you like
finding, then put Klub der Republik on your bar crawl list. Décor is
70s socialist German, the people are trendy without having an
attitude and it’s open to very early hours of the next day. Most
people are welcome, but large lad groups should stagger there
entrances. More happening places in Berlin’s massive bar scene are
Schwarzer Rabe, Victoria bar, N.N. Train Cocktail Bar and Riva.
These three mentioned bars are all very different but do share one
thing in common. They all have unique and exceptional good
atmospheres. Weekends are the best to try these in the now bars, but
equally throughout the week they are worth investigating. Also, to
note for your city break evening excursions is the Universum Lounge.
The décor has won awards & critical acclaim and it is surely one of
the most cosmopolitan places to drink. For chic & unique then try
Universum Lounge, one of the best bars in Berlin. Again, door
control can be more harsh for all male sports tours.
Berlin’s live music scene is extremely well represented and there
is something to be found throughout the week. A-Trane Jazzclub is
one of West Berlin’s most established jazz clubs. This intimate club
has featured artists such as: Herbie Hancock, Jimmy Smith, Benny
Green and Mark Murphy. The Quasimodo is the oldest Jazz-Club and is
one of the most renowned places for live-music in Europe. The club
is situated under the Quasimodo-Café and the Delphi-film-palace and
it is here where city break holiday makers can listen to ‘down to
earth’ jazz music in a traditional & authentic setting. Who comes
here once, is sure to return. Other venues that present quality jazz
evenings are B-flat, Kleine Weltlaterne and Junction Bar. They are
all excellent choices for a refined night out in Berlin. For
alternative live music scenes then head to Bastard. This is the
place for Indie music and is normally frequented by a largely
student crowd. The Mudd Club has live events a least 3 or 4 times a
week, but there is no stylistic orientation. It’s a popular and fun
place to try out, and it’s in a good location in the Mitte district.
Known for it’s a excellent underground scene, Zentral is the
nightclub to hear everything from punk & electro bands. It’s
definitely a no-frills place and stag party’s will appreciate the
cheap drinks. The best place to come for famous international bands,
try Maria am Ostbahnhof. Arranging a short Berlin city break around
a night at the Maria could be an amazing idea. The list of famous
people is endless: Black Eyed peas, Laurent Garnier, Poetree, Audio
Bullys, Beastie Boys, Common and Dj Premier have all toured and
played here.
Berlin is a clubbing paradise. There are clubs open around the
clock, the gay scene is vibrant, the nightclubs are cutting edge and
the spectrum of different dance music on offer is mind boggling. One
of the most respected & busiest clubs is 90 Grad, which really kicks
off around 1am. The door policy or face control can be a bit tight,
so dress to impress. Guests lists advised for stag-type big weekends
and all male groups. But once in 90 Grad, you’ll have an amazing
time, the clientele is beautiful, the music is pumping and you might
just bump into a famous Hollywood star. 90 Grad is a firm favourite
in the Berlin night scene, and if you’re into clubs, we are
confident you’ll like this place. On the Potsdamer Platz is Adagio
and inside it looks like you’re inside a medieval castle. The
interior might be a bit surreal but the parties they throw here are
electric. The clientele is young professionals, with few stag nights
coming here. Like 90 Grad the door policy is fairly strict so sports
tours and stags might get turned away. The music at Adagio tends to
be a great mix of the latest dance tunes, whether house or RnB.
For the late night crowd, check out 2Be-club, open Fridays &
Saturdays. The music is hiphop, rnb & reggae and it’s a great place
to get jiggy and bounce to the urban beats. A mecca for those
legendary hiphop nights is club H20. They’ve had famous underground
hiphop stars from the USA do live P.As there, like ‘non phixon’. The
club is always rammed to the rafters with a party hard crowd, that
know there music and know how to have a great time. The club H20
promoters & resident Djs know how to rock a night and we highly
recommend this funky club to party mad clubbers. Organise VIP passes
to avoid the strict door policy, especially stag do’s and lad
holidays. Matrix in the Friedrichshain area is well worth finding
for a great dance and party night. Tuesdays & Thursdays are packed
full of young students, because of drinks promotions and the
weekends are busy with expats, tourists, stag dos, and locals
rubbing shoulders on the dancefloor. We’ve always found the
atmosphere to be vibrant & friendly, so Matrix is on our recommended
list for any weekend away.
One of the trendiest clubs in Berlin is Sage-Club, which has
three dancefloors, playing techno, hiphop and house music. The door
policy is strict, which normally attracts the young professional
crowd that don’t mind flashing a bit of money and clothing style.
Stags might get turned away here, so make a guest list with the
clubs management. However, once inside, any clubber will be
impressed. The people are friendly, the music is fresh and there are
many rooms to explore and relax in. Sage-Club is a definite winner
and is worth dressing up for. Berlin stag dos should try to organise
VIP passes to avoid disappointment. Hoppetosse is a docked boat on
the River Spree and is another highlight in the nightlife scene. The
favourite & most popular events are the reggae, RnB and Caribbean
nights. If it all gets a bit too hot, then take a breather on the
top deck and catch some lovely views. Also, with views of the River
Spree is the club ‘Watergate’. This nightclub attracts world Djs
that play house, electro, break-beats and drum n bass. The door
policy can be strict for stag parties, so we advise making a guest
list. Looking for something totally off the wall and something you
wouldn’t find anywhere else in the world, then try SO36 in
West-Berlin. Once a month, is the Turkish drag night, an absolutely
bizarre and entertaining experience. On other nights there’s a great
mix of gay & heterosexual clubbers, there’s a mix of music and the
dancefloors are normally packed with smiley people. A trendy
underground club in the capital is Rio on Chausseestrasse street in
Mitte. It normally draws the arty cool crowd and offers a quality
clubbing experience. The King Kong Club is another funky hangout and
usually the entry is free, which is a bonus for those on a Budget
holiday or cheap stag weekend package. There’s live P.As, DJs and a
party mad crowd. More funky Berlin weekend club venues to pop your
head in are: Cookies, Bergstübl, Kaleidoskop, Lola Lounge, Roter
Salon, Soda Club and Zentrale Randlage. The music totally varies
between these night clubs, but they all have a solid reputations as
good places to have a drink & a dance.
House music lovers tend to gravitate to Ostgut, which is located
in an old power station, East-Berlin. Also, for quality techno,
house and trance ‘the Polar TV for Dancing’ in Tiergarten is a good
choice. There are many rooms, chillout zones and dancefloors, so
whether you like the music or not, this club offers a great
experience. After midnight try Tresor in Mitte. For the all night
techno lover this is the place for you, not really the choice for
Berlin stag weekends, lads pissups or discerning travellers. Not
just for Ramirez & the Latin Lovers, Havanna Club draws in a
fabulous mix of people. The Djs play a wonderful mix of music, from
Brazilian rhythms and reggae to Salsa and Latino house music. One of
the coolest late night bar-clubs is designed around a
Blacksploitation theme. Coffy (is the colour) is found on
Winsstrasse street in Prenzlauer Berg. In the funky back room,
resident DJs spin soul, funk and nu-jazz beats. Where bad means good
and the people are righteous, we reckon ‘Coffy’ is a solid option.
Make it part of your brilliant weekends in Berlin. Big Eden attracts
weekly large crowds, which it needs too, to fill its massive
dancefloor. Whether this is a good or a bad thing, both Paul
McCartney & Sylvester Stallone have graced this night club, which is
open from 9pm to 5am. The music is mainstream and is like your
equivalent Ritz club in the UK, so expect a meat market, full of
young students, drunken expats and plenty of cheery stags on a stag
weekend in Berlin. Not as mainstream, but attracts a wide cross
section of party goers is the Weekend Club, situated on the
Alexanderplatz. Thursdays & Saturdays seemed to be the most popular.
Again, expect hard drinking and lads do type of atmosphere.
If you’re looking for an aura of Monte Carlo and Las Vegas then
head to one of Berlin’s most premier casinos on the Potsdamer Platz.
The Spielbank is the home of the Casino Royal, set on 3 floors, full
of games & professional staff. The Casino Berlin is the other most
popular gaming venue in the capital. All the usual games are to be
found here as well as the great Panorama Club 37. Both of these
casinos have excellent track records with our city breaks clients
that visited Berlin with Vamos Travel and we have only found the
staff at these establishments to be helpful & welcoming. Large
partys of men should contact the management of these casinos, to
check their policies of big lad groups. Some Casinos can be quite
strict about stag do’s, concerned about their behavior.
