Vienna Concerts Halls
“There is only one imperial city.
There is only one Vienna”
Johann Strauss - king of waltz
Musikverein: Opened in 1870 by Emperor Franz Joseph and is
one of the most important theatres in the world. The Musikverein has
been at the centre of both Viennese & International classical music
life for centuries and continues in this vain. It is also the
permanent home of the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra.
Wiener Konzerthaus: Was built in 1913 and together with
the Musikverein and Vienna State opera it is regarded as one of
Austria’s premier addresses for classical & contemporary music. Each
season, which runs from October to June, around 700 performances
featuring more than 3,000 different compositions are held in the
Konzerthaus' four concert halls. The Wiener Konzerthaus also
conducts several Festivals during the year. Old Music Festival
Resonanzen in January, the Spring Festival Wiener Frühlingsfestival,
the Internationale Musikfest in May and June and Wien Modern.
Palais Auersperg: As always, the Viennese still love to
sit in beautiful surroundings and when they do, they expect a treat
for the ear as well as for the eye. It is therefore not surprising
that the intimate Palais Auersperg concerts, just as in the past,
are once again numbered among the musical delicacies to be savoured
in Vienna. The palace is a magnet for classical music connoisseurs
and city break visitors from around the world.
Hofburg Palace: Was formerly the winter residence of the
Habsburg Dynasty, where the Emperors once held there audiences.
Today, visitors of Vienna can hear the Wiener Hofburg Orchestra in
two of the most magnificent festival halls; Festsaal and
Redoutensaal. Both halls provide a grand setting for concert guests
and are the perfect reminder that the musical heritage of this
palace dates back more than 300 years. No other concert hall in the
world has witnessed so many historic performances by Mozart,
Beethoven and the Strauss family and other legendary music icons.
Sala Terrena: Is the oldest concert hall in Vienna and it
was here Mozart used to work and play for Bishop Colloredo in 1781.
The Sala Terrena offers the perfect scenery for the music of the
Viennese classical period. The repertoire includes works of Haydn,
Schubert & Mozart.
Orangery Schoenbrunn: Offers the most suitable ambience
for classical concerts. For as long as the time of the Habsburgs,
the Orangery was a place of musical and artistical festivities.
During one of these events, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio
Salieri competed in a musical contest at court. A contest still
considered unique in music history. |
