The Slowacki city theatre was built in 1893, but really
started to flourish around 1946, when opera specialist Walerian
Bierdiajew, took over the opera ensemble. The Slowacki Theatre is an
architectural treasure, with exquisite décor and furnishings,
designed to be a smaller version of Charles Garnier's famous Paris
Opera House. Today, the Krakow Opera traditions and performances are
as strong as ever, performed to the highest of standards. Its opera,
operetta and ballet performances have been applauded by music fans
from all over the world. We’d recommend a visit to the theatre
during the day, to take a closer look at the interior, the unique
dressing room of Ludwik Solski (who has performed in over five
hundred different roles), the ornamental platforms, breathtaking
chandeliers and the famous curtain painted by Hanryk Siemiradzki.
The Slowacki Theatre is the largest and most famous theatre of
Krakow and to watch an opera or ballet as part of a city break
holiday, will be a memorable occasion. We have a dedicated
department that specialises in Opera city breaks and many other
luxury styled holidays, based around theatre performances.
Found on 48 Lubicz Street, is the Operetta stage, another
popular venue for the Krakow Opera to perform. The Operetta stage
has been an integral part of Krakow’s rich intellectual, spiritual &
cultural life and is the second best place in Krakow to watch a
classical or contemporary opera or ballet performance. Vamos Travel
would be delighted to arrange theatre tickets to coincide with any
type of luxury holiday you decide to book. Contact the opera
specialists, with your ticket requests.

Metallurgy was founded in 1969. The Krakow Ballet is still run by
the University which allows Krakow’s youth to become involved in
ballet art and continue the artistic movement in Poland and across
the world. They have performed at numerous ballet festivals,
including: Krakow Jazz Festival, Days of Music, Lodz Ballet Meetings
and many others. The EST Experimental Dance Studio perform a wealth
of contemporary dance techniques, involving elements of ballet,
theatre and abstract performances. The DF Dance Theatre has operated
in Krakow since 1990, incorporating both classical & modern ballet
arrangements, with their own vision of movement. They have appeared
in many Krakow Ballet Meetings, Spring festivals and on various
stages across Europe and Poland.
Poland’s cultural capital is one of the finest cities in Europe
to experience the delights of classical music. By visiting Krakow on
a classical breaks holidays, concert enthusiasts can book tickets to
see the world famous Cracow Philharmonic Orchestra, in
Krakow’s finest venue, the neo-baroque Philharmonic Hall. The
concert hall is located very close to the centre of Krakow’s old
Town and is home to the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra, which is one
of the most reputable orchestras of Poland. The facade of the
Philharmonic building is crowned with a cartouche with a ‘Three
Crowns’ coat of arms. The concert hall has 816 seats, making it the
biggest venue in Cracow. Apart from the concert hall, the
Philharmonic has two other rooms for chamber music, the Golden Hall
and Blue Hall, in which the Late Pope John Paul II debuted as a
poet. The Philharmonic has been present in Europe and the world for
over 40 years and its ensembles have played in over 30 countries.
Apart from weekly symphonic concerts, it organises events in many of
Krakow’s most historical buildings, like the Royal Wawel Castle and
Jagiellonian University. Without a doubt, the Philharmonic Orchestra
has had, and continues to have a major impact on enriching the
cultural life of Cracow. Contact our friendly staff about designing
a suitable city break package that includes concert tickets.
The Florianka Hall is highly recommended for classical concerts
and classical festivals. It is not as well known as the Cracow
Philharmonic Hall, but many international conductors and orchestras
have performed here. If concert tickets are unavailable for the
major venues in Krakow, then Florianka Hall is an excellent
secondary choice for your holidays in Poland. |
