Vamos Travel
operates activity holidays for solo travellers.
Activity holidays are perfect for anyone who fancies an
exciting and fun holiday in pristine nature at the same time
as meeting new like-minded people.
Our ethos:
Life is all about
experiences, with travel & people being big parts of it. Our
adventure holidays in Slovenia are available for individuals
and we feel it is a great way for solo travellers to
experience the amazing nature and activities that Slovenia
offers. Banding together to negotiate white waters will soon
forge bonds which undoubtedly will end with new friendships
being made.
Our Guides:
Our guides are
hand picked for their professionalism and also their
companionability. They will without doubt bring the group
together quickly and are sure to enhance your adventure
holiday experience.
No Single
Supplements:
Where possible we
will always give solo-travellers an option to room share
with other same sex customers to avoid a single supplement.
We can also book a single room for you; this is entirely up
to you. Feel free to discuss the options with your dedicated
Vamos Travel consultant: 0845 299 7807
Meeting like-minded people:
Our adventure
holidays attract discerning travellers who revel in the
outdoors, enjoy local food & cultures and are happy to meet
& share their holiday experience with like minded
individuals.
The Verdict:
The only thing we
ask you to bring with you is a smile and we are quietly
confident it will remain with you for the duration of your
activity holiday. In fact the only time you will not be
smiling is when it is time to say goodbye on your departure
day.

Adventure
short break in Slovenia - Go-Active 003
Day 1:
I flew to Ljubljana on an EasyJet flight and was met in the
arrivals hall by Martina and a number of fellow travellers.
The journey took around 90 minutes and it gave us chance to
chat and get to know each other. At the hotel Martina
arranged a welcome drink for us and we met the rest of the
group. 12 of us in total. After the introduction Martina took
us to play "Crazy Olmpics". This was a great way to get
everyone relaxed and integrated. We ended up playing into
the dark before finally giving up on Martina's final
challenge and retiring for a drink at the hotel bar. Already
it felt like we had known each other for years. And truth be
told, it wasn't just one drink.
Day 2:
I was sharing a room
with Carrie, a really nice girl from the Midlands. Her brother
had let her down at the last minute so she decided similarly
to me to be brave and just go on her own. I think its fair
to say you are nearly always going to meet nice people on
this sort of activity break holiday as there is a good chance you will be
like minded and at the very least have an interest in
adventure outdoor pursuits, responsible tourism and maybe if you are
anything like me nice local cuisine.
So after a nice breakfast we set out on our first activity:
White water rafting. This was great fun and our guide 'Hory'
was hilarious looking after us and soaking us at the same
time. The water was crystal clear and so clean you could
drink straight from it. I've heard mixed reports from
friends about White water rafting. Some of my friends have
told horror stories of whirl pools and grade 5 drops into a
white abyss and other friends have told quite contrasting
stories, about mild waters & a disappointing time. Well, i'm
glad to report, that the Soca river offers the perfect
balance. The rapids are grade 3, so challenging and exciting
(but not life threatening). The experience was nothing but
positive and we screamed and shouted the whole way down. At
the end, hugs & hi-fives! Of course!
After the water rafting we then set off on mountain bikes heading
back to Tolmin. This was a lovely activity; moderate cycling
riding through idyllic Slovene villages and stopping at
various view points. We took an old track down by the river Idrijca for the final few miles and even had time to cool
down with a swim. It was a nice contrast from water to land,
again, seeing Slovenia from a different perspective & the
reason for needing a big memory card in your camera * i
recommend the new waterproof cameras, great for this kind of
active holiday.
On the evening we all ate together at the hotel and just by
luck their was a big music festival in the town that
evening, which we duly participated in. By now the group
were already very close but Day 3 was to bring the best
experiences yet.
Day 3:
Today was the most
extreme day on our agenda. In the morning we were
Canyoning and in the afternoon i had booked the 'optional
extra' activity - Hydro speeding. Canyoning started with a
nice trek and then you descend down natural chutes of water.
The first chutes are quite small and slowly they get bigger
concluding with an incredible 27m waterfall descent.
Everyone including the guys were scarred about this one but
'Hory' and 'Rockie' our
two guides control your descent so it was absolutely fine
and just another amazing experience. A really, trully,
amazing experience. A life highlight, yes! No doubt.
For
the hydro-speeding we carried our heavy rafts down to the
river which was quite a challenge in the morning sun. We
then had the opportunity to jump off a huge rock into the
river. I'm happy to say ladies i was one of the people to do
it, and in fact some of the boys chickened out! ha!. The Hydro-speeding
was amazing though. Quite scary at the start as you are
literally zooming down the rapids with your buoyancy aid
trying to avoid the big rocks where possible. This was without doubt one of the best things I have
ever done in my life. Another high to ride on! What a day,
quite possibly one of the most fun days of my life. Yes!
Definitely it was.
Day 4:
After a late breakfast we took a stroll down to a nearby
lake and whiled our last few hours away. Then the lovely
Martina who had met us on the first day collected us and
took the transfer back to Ljubljana airport. Check-in is so
quick here, as its such a small airport (another small
positive).
I can understand why so many Vamos Travel customers class
their Slovenia multi -active holidays as the best holidays
of their lives. It certainly goes down as my favourite short
break holiday and I am pleased to say that I am still in
touch with Carrie, Richard and the rest of the gang - good
old facebook.
A big thumbs up
from a first time solo traveller
