From High
Performance Athletes To Regular Medical Mainstream
First developed in Eastern Europe as a treatment for high
performance athletes, the WBCC treatment has rapidly progressed
to being used in main stream medicine as an effective and
recognised treatment for syndromes such as fibromyalgia,
arthritis, chronic pains due to wear on joints and the spine,
lower back disorders, rheumatoid joint inflammation,
inflammation, fibrositis, sclerosis, osteoporosis, cellulite and
depression.

Everyone
AquaCity is now able to make this ground breaking fitness and
wellbeing treatment available to everyone as part of its
luxurious Health enhancing resort complex. Come along and find
out how to take the ultimate ‘Chill-Out’ relaxation régime at
the AquaCity CryoTherapy Centre. What does taking the
CryoTherapy treatment involve?
A Treatment Designed
To Enhance Health, Fitness And Wellbeing
As well as being a rehabilitation treatment the Whole Body
Chamber CryoTherapy is also recognised as a legitimate method of
preserving health and fitness and promoting general wellbeing in
the vast majority of cases. How does it do this and what Are The
Benefits?
How many Sessions Do
I Need To Feel The Benefits Of CryoTherapy?
Almost everyone taking CryoTherapy treatment reports feeling
some benefit, even after their first session. However, it is
recommended that you undertake a course of up to seven sessions,
with up to a maximum of fifteen treatments, in any one year.
This means, ideally, you’ll come for two one week sessions or,
maybe three, five day treatments annually.
What Happens To The Body
In the Cryo-Chamber?
While the patient is in the main Cryo-Chamber the body’s
external temperature is quickly lowered making the blood
circulating within it the only source of heat. The sharp
contrast in temperatures between the circulatory system and the
body tissues causes a powerful sensation of internal heat – a
simple reflex which can continue for up to six hours after
treatment and positively accelerate the healing process involved
with many conditions.
Why Is CryoTherapy Good
For Me?
Active hyperaemia (increased blood flow) is one of the most
positive aspects of CryoTherapy which helps combat inflammation
and swelling due to excess body fluids, as well as enhancing
lymph flow. The stimulation of sensory receptors with extreme
temperatures has been proven to help patients stop feeling pain,
wherever it was previously reported as being located within the
body. Such effects can last for hours and, with subsequent
treatments, this lack off sensation can be maintained
longer-term. This ‘simulative analgesia’ as it’s known, is
helped by the release of p-endorphin, a morphine-like substance,
within the brain. Another direct benefit is that a perceived
lack of pain enables more intensive physical exercise or
physiotherapy manipulation which for many people can permanently
improve a wide variety of conditions.
Taking
The Treatment

Safe And Sure Under Strict Medical
Supervision
The AquaCity CryoTherapy treatments are all taken under strict
medical supervision provided by MUDr. Ján Potocký. Dr. Potocký
is a fully qualified physician and, in addition to his regular
duties at the Poprad hospital and medical centre, he also
attends as the resident physiotherapist to the local
professional Soccer and Ice Hockey teams.
Controlled And Monitored
Super-Cold Conditions
The Whole Body CryoTherapy Chamber (WBCC) consists of two
specially constructed “Cold-Rooms”. These chambers are around
the size of a small sauna and are able to accommodate six to
eight people at a time.
The first chamber, or Ante-Chamber, is cooled to a temperature
of -60°C. The second chamber, the main Cryo-Chamber itself, is
cooled to -120°C. Each of the chambers has a window and a two
way intercom system so that the doctor is within sight and sound
of the users at all times.
Experiencing The Cryo-Treatment
Taking the treatment involves entering each of the chambers in
turn, wearing a minimum of special clothing which is supplied by
the centre. This consists of shorts (and T-shirts for the
ladies) together with insulated shoes, socks, ear protectors,
gloves and a disposable light paper mask to cover the nose and
mouth.
The Anti-Chamber
(-60°C)
Clients stay in the anti-chamber for up to 1 minute. The purpose
of the anti-chamber is primarily to ensure that all the moisture
from the surface of the body, and from the clothing worn, is
eliminated before they pass into the Cryo-Chamber itself.
The Cryo-Chamber
(-120°C)
Upon instruction from the supervising staff, users then pass
into the main Cryo-Chamber. Here they walk around, to stimulate
the circulation and to ensure that as much blood as possible is
forced to the surface of the skin for cooling.
While they are inside the Cryo-Chamber people scarcely perceive
the extreme temperatures, apart from a slight, pleasant tingling
sensation. Your stay in the Cryo-Chamber will be from 1 to 3
minutes. During that time skin temperature drops to around 2°C,
however the body temperature only drops by between 0.1°C and
0.2°C.
After Experiencing The
Cryo-Treatment
After emerging from the Cryo-Chamber clients are taken
immediately to the CryoTherapy’s gymnasium. Here a qualified
fitness instructor will take you through a personalised 20
minute low impact, cardio-vascular workout. This is designed to
encourage enhanced blood flow to all the muscles and joints.
After completing each session of their WBCC treatment, people
report a pleasant warm feeling throughout their whole body. All
joints move more fluidly, and they report they feel happy,
strong, and full of energy. This positive effect lasts for up to
6 hours. The immediate effect of skin cooling and analgesia
lasts for around 5 minutes, but the release of endorphins can
have a longer lasting effect, where the pains and signs of
inflammation, as found in blood tests, remain suppressed,
sometimes for weeks.
